If you like the Black Keys and/or Pixies, then you can look forward to listening to this low-fi combination of those two sounds. On the other hand, if you loved Cage the Elephant’s last album Melophobia (which means “the fear of music,” by the way), you might not like Tell Me I’m Pretty. Elephant goes back to a less original but nevertheless still exciting sound that they had displayed on their sophomore effort Thank You, Happy Birthday in 2011. If they weren’t breaking new ground on that album, then they definitely aren’t here. In fact, I can specifically say that “Trouble” sounds a lot like Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind” and “Mess Around” like the Black Keys “Gold on the Ceiling.” But here is the important question: since when has a collaboration album between the Black Keys and Pixies been a bad idea?
