Have the people with moral gripes about Licorice Pizza seen this movie yet?
Even though the socioeconomic conditions are completely reversed, watching this reminded me of the latest season of Succession. Constant, painful tension, rendered as comedy because no one is to blame for the predicament except the (completely self-serving) characters themselves. I couldn’t help but recall Hillary’s infamous “basket of deplorables” while watching—but it ain’t class, wealth, or anything like it that’s put Mikey in the basket. It’s because when you look behind his eyes, behind his Machiavellian Texan eyes, there’s nothing there. To quote cousin Greg, “What am I gonna do with a soul anyways?”
